Note: oils extracted from bark, resins, roots of trees or plants will NOT work with a nebulizer because these oils are too thick and will cause clogging. Therefore, for inhalation, use these thicker essential oils ONLY with a diffuser. Read our FAQ page for the list of essential oils which are not recommended to use with a nebulizer.

Diffusion

Diffusion of Frankincense is an excellent way to help aid relaxation, mood, energy, as well as promote the healing process. Frankincense essential oil is distilled from frankincense resin and therefore is a thicker essential oil than those extracted from plants. Hence when used with a  nebulizer it should be diluted with alcohol or with other essential oils from our list below (1 drop of alcohol to 10 drops of oil) otherwise it will clog too fast.

Here's a short list of other oils that blend very well with Frankincense: basil, geraniumgrapefruitlavenderlemongrassorange, palmarosa, patchouli, pine, rose, ylang-ylang.

This oil sends messages to the brain’s limbic system which affects the rest of the nervous system, hence is incredibly useful for relaxation, easing tension, balancing hormone levels, reducing pain and inflammation, and therefore fighting infection. It's also can help in cases of fearfulness and dread with no apparent cause, such as the fear of change or letting go.

Overall well-being: it has a pleasant, relaxing smell that can deodorize and add freshness to your home in whatever way it is diffused. It can be used daily to promote respiratory health and relaxation-diffuse it with tea tree, or lemongrass, or grapefruit. Inhaling frankincense can also aid anxiety symptoms because it helps reduce heart rate and lower blood pressure. It can have both a calming and energizing effect. Aromatherapy in the evening or morning (or whenever stress and anxiety are highest) will help provide some natural relief. For stress, we recommend mixing 1 drop of Frankincense to 10 drops of Ylang or 10 drops Patchouli.

Colds, other respiratory conditions, and overall support for respiratory health: can be inhaled as a remedy to reduce symptoms of colds such as coughing and chest or throat pain. It combats infection and increases immunity. Alternatively, add a few drops on a cloth to inhale the oil when you don’t have the ability to diffuse the oil.

Topical Application

Frankincense needs to be combined with a carrier oil in order to be most effective in topical use. You can use olive or jojoba as good oils to mix with frankincense. Do not consume or use in large quantities. You only need a few drops to be effective.

Anti-aging: use a few drops along with a carrier oil (unscented) as a moisturizer in areas that need a bit of a lift. You can also add it to other moisturizers such as body lotion in order to use it all over and turn back the clock.

Whole body massage: mix it with a carrier oil for a whole body relaxing massage, or to ease sore muscles and joints.

Arthritis, muscle aches, and menstrual cramps: Frankincense is proven to reduce inflammation and inflammation and it’s effective for natural pain relief. For muscle aches, you can steam a few drops of oil or you can steam a cloth with the oil and place it on your body or face to ease that muscle tension.

Aromatic bath: drop a little Frankincense into your evening bath to get an aromatic experience of relaxation, to reduce feelings of anxiety and stress, and to get some relief from symptoms of pain and soreness. A bath with Frankincense will also help improve uterine health due to its antiseptic and healing properties.

Scars/Wounds: use the oil topically to diminish scars as well as heal minor wounds.

Internal Use

Can be consumed in a liquid or on its own (keep the dose small-maybe 1-2 drops)

Culinary: add 1-2 drops to tea or water to help ease digestion problems.

Anti-viral and microbial: consume a few drops diluted in water or tea during illness to help fight infection and boost immunity. We highly recommend using only those essential oils that are labeled USDA Certified Organic to avoid inhaling toxins and chemicals found in non-organic oils.

Other Uses

Bad breath, cavities, mouth sores: create your own frankincense toothpaste with baking soda to refresh your breath, prevent cavities, and clear up mouth sores. You can also put a blended oil mix directly onto mouth sores to heal them faster.

Oil Specific: non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-sensitizing. Avoid during pregnancy. Can cause dermatitis in sensitive individuals.

General: keep out of reach of children and pets. Not for internal use unless taken under the supervision or recommendation of an aromatherapist professional. Do not use undiluted on skin, eyes, or mucous membranes; it could cause allergic reactions. Always test first on a small portion of your skin. If you are pregnant, consult with a healthcare provider/ professional experienced with essential oils as some essential oil are less tolerated while others are well loved by pregnant women.

Storage and Handling: the shelf life of ESSENTIAL OILS is usually around 1 year after they're opened, and up to 2 years when unopened. All essential oils oxidize and are subject to lose their therapeutic value and aromatic quality in time. Essential oils benefit from proper storage and handling. Avoid keeping essential oils in a location that is prone to sudden temperature changes such as the bathroom or kitchen. Store them in a cool, dark place, away from heat and light.
